Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay
Wine
Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay is a premium single site wine. It is sourced from the Sexton Vineyard on the steep, exposed slopes of the Warramate Ranges at Gruyere in the Yarra Valley.
The vines grow in thin topsoils. Forced to establish their roots in shallow gravelly loams over a tough clay base, they produce low yields of intensely flavoured fruit.
The fruit is handpicked and hand sorted in both vineyard and winery. It is whole bunch pressed and coarse settled to new and seasoned French oak puncheons. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts and lees stirring.
The wine matures for 9-10 months on lees without malolactic fermentation or lees stirring. After a coarse filtration, it is bottled via gravity.
Pale straw, Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay is lush and creamy with subtle oak, a backbone of punchy acidity and a long, clean finish. Cellaring potential is six years.
